World Immunization Week, celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective actions needed to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.

The Access Challenge and the One by One: Target 2030 and COVID-19 Campaigns will use World Immunization Week to amplify the critical work being done to ensure everyone in Africa is vaccinated against COVID-19.

One by One: Target COVID-19 is a Pan-African, coalition-driven communications and advocacy Campaign created in April 2020 by The Access Challenge, the African Union, the Africa CDC, WHO AFRO and Clouds Media Group. One By One mobilizes influencers from all sectors of society to use their viral platforms to promote critical COVID prevention behaviors. Having initially promoted messages aimed at combating misinformation in April 2020, the Campaign is now shifting its focus to public awareness and education around vaccines in partnership with the Tanzanian Government with support from GSK.

We are using this opportunity to spotlight the Campaign’s trusted messengers – AfricaCOVIDChampions – who have, since 2020, championed the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by combating misinformation and encouraging accurate COVID-19 preventive practices. Humanizing the act of getting vaccinated via storytelling & testimonials by trusted messengers like #AfricaCOVIDChampions helps encourage #LongLifeForAll.
